TOWARDS THE end of his presidency, former President Daniel arap Moi was often taunted by people chanting "Moi must go!" Just before he left office, the former president quipped bitterly at a public rally: "They keep saying Moi must go, one day they will say Moi must come."
It would seem the former president's prediction has come to pass. Last week, there were reports that Mr Moi met with President Kibaki at State House for consultations on the referendum aftermath.

November 28, 2005 (Business Africa) – The Doraleh oil and petroleum terminal will be formally inaugurated this month. The sea-side construction began limited operations in mid-September, while the land-side is expected to be finished by March 2006. Construction of the Doraleh container terminal is due to start by year-end, with the facility becoming operational by 2007. The port authority is optimistic that these investments will reverse the decline in traffic volumes suffered last year at Djibouti port, since it attributes much of the loss of transshipment business to congestion in the area.

Unelected Somalia leaders venture to mislead the world about Somaliland:
Mr. Gedi asserted, “Somaliland is a Somalia entity first of all. They claim to break away from the unity, but that is not the reality today”. I don’t believe in different entities. The act of union of the 1960 is still there… It is within the transitional federal charter of Somalia that Somalia is one country, it is one nation… So we understand that maybe some international actors are trying to advocate for the recognition of Somaliland but that will never happen. Factually it must be emphasized that there is no ‘Federation’ of Somali states but an old ‘Act of Union’ between two independent States. Mr. Gedi’s hypocritical view ignores to distinguish that if the two states were of the same entity they would be integral part of one another thus eliminating the need for a ‘Union’. He, while not meaning to, answers his own question by admitting to a union which in-turn supports the two state model, which they have blindly denied

There was something strange about the fire that our guide made while preparing tea in our camp 5 km north of Ceerigabo. While sipping our sweetened tea, the smell kept lingering in the air, it was sweet, as sweet as innocence. It was on a slightly chilly evening last November while we were waiting to enter the Surud Mountains in Somaliland , one of the last seemingly untouched places on this planet. We had actually left behind all fears in Cairo as we set off to Somaliland , following the footsteps of early explorers. We had decided to make the visit in search of a few elusive stapeliad species and also to view the majestic Aloe eminens in its habitat. The Surud Mountains are in the northern part of Somaliland , in the Saanag region. The highest peak is Mount Shimbiris , at 2416 m the highest mountain in all of Somalia .

A SOMALI PLAGIARIST WRITER
Whatsoever Writing is a Noble Profession and Demanding Task, But No Shortcuts Whatsoever
By Ahmed M. Dirie, PhD
It wasn’t painless to come forward and expose a fellow writer’s wrongdoings and I do not intend to slap on the wrist a Somali writer or to mess up the integrity of a Somali professional but it is more on tipping off the unsuspecting web managers and readers. I tried to put it right in private through a web administrator or an editor but it was unsuccessful. Therefore, I felt that it is an obligation to inform the readers, would-be writers, and at least to correct misuse of copyrighted information on the internet

The Gurti Delivers, President Rayale Shows Statesmanship, Somaliland System Works
|
Once in a while a great challenge arises that poses a major test for the political system of a country. The parliamentary crisis that faced Somaliland in the last few days was such a test. Fortunately, Somaliland passed the test. Credit of course goes to our House of Elders (Senate) who reached a wise decision that upheld the results of the vote of the majority of the parliamentarians and supported the democratic process. This was the first major dispute that the House of Elders had to settle under the leadership of Mr. Suleiman Mahmud Adam and it was more than equal to the task. Credit also goes to President Rayale who showed real statesmanship by foregoing narrow political interests and accepting what is good for the country.

By Eng. Adam Sheikh Ibrahim Suldan
There are many ways to take hostages. Individual or group hostage taking is probably the most commonly known aspect where victims are (individuals or groups) held against their wills and threatened with injuries or death, or prevented to do what they want to do unless certain demands from the hostage takers are met. There is another kind of a hostage taking that might be new to the most people: Country Hostage Taking. Country hostage taking is rare in the modern world. Bust it exists. Unlike individual or group hostage taking, country hostage taking is not organized by a single person or a group of persons, but a collection of cooperating countries. It is created when a country is held politically isolated and internationally abandoned by the rest of the world. In today’s world, no country can manage to survive and develop without the interconnections and relations with the outside world at all levels.

Good Morning Somaliland ! Yassin Ali Warsame said in Hargeisa that the people of Somaliland should accept an apology for the shenanigans of the representative from Sanaag for being a yes man to the party and a no man to the march of democratic politics in this country. Well, Mr Warsame ought to know that our representative from Sanaag needs no such apology from the people of Sanaag to Somaliland what need to happen is for the representative to apologize to his constituents who elected him to this important post, to his fellow parliamentarians and to the parliament itself, for twisting in the wind and for closing the door on his 15 minutes in the limelight!

Land Tenure: Addressing Territorial Disputes Somaliland
|
John Drysdale explains how GIS technology is helping former refugees in Somaliland to gain title to their land.
|

Many farmers in Somaliland are former refugees who abandoned their farms and fled to Ethiopia during the civil wars in Somalia in the late 1980s and early 1990s. On their return, the farmers had no formal proof of ownership, and the unclear boundaries between farms led to fierce and often prolonged conflicts. With no police presence in the rural areas, many farmers defended their territorial rights with AK47s, to the death if necessary.
