London, UK, August 19, 2006 (SL Times) – Somaliland president Dahir Rayale Kahin has invited members of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Somaliland to visit Hargeysa.

Mr. Rayale spoke on the telephone Wednesday with Allun Michael MP who is the chairman of the all party group to thank him for his support and that of his committee for Somaliland. The president pledged that his government will work with the group.

The Secretary General of the all party group is Kerry McCarthy MP.

President Rayale arrived in London on last Tuesday on a working visit to the UK. He was received by Lord Triesman, the minister for Africa at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Discussions between Rayale and British officials centered on bilateral relations as well as the situation in the Horn of Africa region.

Both sides have expressed satisfaction with the way the talks went. “I had an excellent meeting with H. E. Dahir Rayale Kahin. The United Kingdom has good relations with Somaliland authorities who have achieved stability and established democratic institutions in a troubled region. We want to work with them to consolidate those achievements and assist in Somaliland’s development” Lord Triesman said.

In a joint statement issued following the visit, both sides stressed their commitment to peace, stability and democratic governance in the Horn of Africa.

The two sides also agreed to stay in close touch and to make further visits to increase their cooperation on issues of mutual concern.

President Rayale was accompanied during the visit by his ministers for Foreign Affairs, Finance and Posts and Telecommunications.
