Ich Bin Ein Hawiye (I Am A Hawiye Citizen)

By Cabdale Faarah Sigad

No matter what his critics say but most of the times I do trust President Rayale’s judgment. But it is also my obligation as a concerning citizen to say when and where I disagree about his policy. Therefore I am sad to say that in the present situation regarding between Somaliland & Majeertenia, I am not really sure what the president is trying to do.

It is obvious that our nation are in war with people who don’t respect our legitimate borders, and in my opinion Somaliland borders should be secured and I would support if this can be done through a dialog and negotiations, bearing in mind that war is not a pleasant thing. However if that doesn’t work and the only options we have as a nation happen to be using forces, so be it.

Nevertheless I don’t get it why the President is humiliating himself and the nation, and I don’t get it his plan. May be somebody can educate me on this issue but I don’t get it.

I love peace and I hate war, but as the old Awdal saying goes (NIN AANU WARANKAA, GELIN WEEDHAADU MA GASHO).

So in this article today I am questioning President Rayale’s actions on this matter.

I would like to say this to the President.

Mr. President you are capably, politically and militarily to defeat Abdillahi Yusuf’s militia. You also have the support of your nation. So Mr. President, why are you dragging your feet from taking difficult decisions on this vital issue?

If Mr. Meles Zenawi is dictating your actions I think it is time you should stand up to him. And it is time to tell Mr. Zenawi that he cannot interfere Somaliland affairs. And it is time for you to tell him that you are not a warlord but a state man who had been elected by his people. It is time to question Ethiopia’s friendship.

Let us face it the friendship between Ethiopia and Somaliland is not neutral and is not a fair one at any rate. We Somalilanders accept everything Ethiopia throws on us. We also bloke our ears and our eyes from the genocide which is happening in Mogadishu committed by Ethiopia and their man Abdillahi Yusuf.. We are being Ethiopian slaves in twenty first century and we are allowing Ethiopia to be our masters. We can not continue to please Ethiopia, this is not right and something has to be done about it.

Ethiopia will never recognize Somaliland and Meles Zenawi will never accept to see a stable administration in south Somalia. ‘And according to some Ethiopian writers his hideous plan is to keep all Somalis hostage on the benefit of his political career.

Unlike Mr. Zenawi you, Mr. President came to power in a fair and free election. You tried to maintain good relations with our neighbors but both our immediate neighbors, Djibouti and Ethiopia failed to appreciate what you have to offer for them.

Today Somaliland is the one that should be bribed by its neighbors. We suppose to be the militant and the nation that has nothing to spare. I know we have to act like state because that is what we are, but with no recognition and no help from the rest of the world is unacceptable. On top of that an African dictator whom is not even our dictator is ruling us. (Meles Zenawi)

So Mr. President our neighbors are the ones who should be grateful to us, because we don’t violate their borders we don’t shoot their people we don’t blackmail them. But maybe it is time we should do all these things. Maybe it is time we demand our recognition instead of begging it, maybe it is time we should adopt a different tactics to get what is ours.

I believe if we fire rockets in every direction now and then, we would have got our neighbor’s attentions. So let us create a militia that will put a fire on the entire region. It obvious that keeping the peace in east Africa is not serving in our interests in fact it is weakening us, and to our neighbors we are becoming irrelevant to them. Our strategy which is maintaining the peace in east Africa is not working.

Since we are unrecognized state, no international rules apply on us, so it is time we should grab our neighbors and the world’s attention and since every existing institution in the world ignored our cause, I think it is time we should violate every treaty we have with our neighbors and it is time we should violate every international law.

Mr. President it is time to face the hard bit. There is no point for you to sit in Hargeisa and hope for the best.

I have no objection sacking a minister who refused to do as he was instructed to do, but what puzzled myself and may others is the way things are going at moment. I don’t buy the blame game between you Mr. President and your Minister I think the issue is wider and deeper as we the citizens led to believe. I think everything is down to the relation between you Mr. President and Mr. Zenawi.

In conclusion

Even if you want to avoid war for the sake of the Sool/Sanaag resident, there are some people in that region who appose to Somaliland sovereignty and they don’t share with your good will, Mr. President.

Markaa fadhigaa fadhi uga noqo your Excellency
