President’s Family Orders Judge To Hand Stiff Sentence To Haatuf Journalists

Hargeysa, Somaliland, June 21, 2014 (SL Times) – A leaked report says that the government has ordered the judge in charge of Haatuf’s case to convict the journalists and hand them a stiff sentence which combines a jail term, monetary fine, and the suspension of Haatuf and the Somaliland Times from publication for several months.
The sentence was arranged by the presidential family and their son-in-law Bashe Awil who worked through the president of Hargeysa’s court Faysal Dhago-dhago, the attorney general, the minister of minerals and the minister of interior.
News of the naked collusion between the executive and judicial branches of government, though not surprising, has made an already tense situation in the city of Hargeisa even more tense.
