Somaliland’s Failed Foreign Policy

Hargeysa, Somaliland, March 28, 2015 (SL Times) – The Presidential candidate of UCID party. Jamal Ali Hussein, described Somaliland’s foreign policy as a failure. He attributed this failure to the fact that Somaliland’s government does not really believe in the country’s independence.
To highlight this lack of commitment to the country’s sovereignty, Jamal Ali Hussein cited the interview that Somaliland’s representative, Mohamoud Jama Sifir, gav to the VOA in which the latter said he had not changed his position on Somaliland’s independence versus unity with Somalia and that Somaliland was the one that changed its position by accepting talks with Somalia. Does Sifir mean to tell us that the only reason we have a representative in Kenya is for talks to take place between Somaliland and Somalia, Jamal Ali Hussein asked.
Mohamoud Jama Sifir is a Somalilander who defected to Somalia and became a deputy prime minister there, and after he was sacked by Somalia’s government he was appointed by President Sillanyo as Somaliland’s representative in Kenya.
